Castle Acre is a rare Norman heritage site in Castle Acre, Norfolk, preserving a motte-and-bailey castle, priory ruins, and a Bailey Gate all founded by the de Warenne family.

About
Castle Acre
Sitting above the River Nar in rural Norfolk, Castle Acre is one of the most complete survivals of a Norman planned settlement in England, taking in a castle, priory, parish church, and medieval town defences within a single village. The motte-and-bailey castle was begun in the 1070s, while the Cluniac priory dates to around 1089 and ranks among East Anglia's largest and best-preserved monastic ruins.
