Kays Fruit & Veg - Nacton Road

Kays on Nacton Road is the flagship of a family-run Ipswich greengrocer that now has three shops across the town. Kays Fruit Veg and Florist Ltd was formed in July 1996 and is still registered at this address, which makes it the longest-standing of the three and the one most locals mean when they simply say "Kays". It opens at 7am, half an hour ahead of the other branches, and has built up the biggest following of the three on Google with well over a hundred reviews averaging close to five stars. The produce is sold loose from open displays, so you can buy two onions rather than a bag of ten and take it home with next to no plastic. Stock follows the seasons, with British-grown fruit and veg when it is available and imported lines to fill the gaps, and regulars point out that it keeps for far longer than the chilled supermarket equivalent. Alongside the fruit and veg there is a proper florist counter, with wreaths, bouquets, posies and coffin sprays made to order, and reviewers mention using it for Mother's Day, birthdays and funerals as well as the weekly shop. The shop trades Monday to Saturday and is closed on Sundays. Card and contactless payments are accepted. Kays' two sister shops are on Meredith Road in the north-west of Ipswich and Hawthorn Drive in Chantry.
