Kays' Chantry shop on Hawthorn Drive is the newest of the family's three Ipswich greengrocers and the first proper fruit and veg shop the estate has had in years. Locals were quick to say so: the early Google reviews read as relief as much as praise, with one asking the shop to "please stay at Chantry" and another calling it a wonderful addition to the area. It has since settled in with a 4.9-star average and the same loyal, supermarket-abandoning customer base the other two Kays shops enjoy. Like its sister branches on Nacton Road and Meredith Road, the shop sells fruit and vegetables loose from open displays, so you buy exactly the quantity you want and carry very little packaging home. Stock is seasonal and changes through the year, and there are eggs and a few store-cupboard essentials alongside the produce. Reviewers single out the layout, the freshness and the friendliness of the staff, and several say it is now the only place they buy fruit and veg. The shop opens at 7.30am Monday to Saturday, closes at 5.30pm and does not open on Sundays. Cards and contactless are accepted.
