About this event
The Wolsey Writers Group is a long-running creative writing community that gathers on the first Saturday of most months in the upstairs bar of the New Wolsey Theatre in Ipswich, Suffolk. Founded in 2015, it has built a warm, inclusive following for writers of every stripe and every level of ambition.
What to expect
- Sessions led by Katie Ward, an award-winning Suffolk author and lecturer in creative writing at the University of Suffolk
- Tips and exercises to sharpen your creative practice, followed by focused writing time
- Peer support and a genuine sense of community, whether you are drafting a haiku or the first book of a trilogy
- A space open to novelists, scriptwriters, poets, storytellers, children's authors, comedy writers and non-fiction writers alike
Good to know
- Sessions run throughout 2026 on the first Saturday of each month, starting 3 January and ending 5 December (note: April moves to the second Saturday, 11th; no session in August)
- Doors open at 10 am for a 10:30 am start, finishing by noon
- Pay what you feel ticketing, bookable through the New Wolsey Theatre box office
- Suitable for adults and young people aged 16 and over
