About this event

Eastern Angles Theatre Company brings its new touring production of The Go-Between to the New Wolsey Theatre in Ipswich for two days this September. Adapted from L.P. Hartley's beloved 1953 novel by playwright Ben Musgrave, this is a bold, non-linear staging of a story that has lost none of its power.

Young Leo Colston spends the summer of 1900 as a guest at a grand Norfolk estate, and finds himself recruited to carry secret love letters between the upper-class Marian Maudsley and Ted Burgess, a local tenant farmer. What begins as innocent errands unravels into a web of desire, class tension and betrayal, with consequences that will haunt Leo for the rest of his life.

What to expect

  • A non-linear narrative that mirrors the novel's movement between past and present
  • Original live music and striking visuals inspired by the Norfolk landscape
  • Howard Saddler as Leo Colston, joined by Hilary Greatorex and Jack Solloway
  • Recommended for audiences aged 14 and over

Good to know

  • Performances: Friday 4 September at 7:00 pm; Saturday 5 September at 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm
  • Tickets are available through the New Wolsey Theatre box office and Eastern Angles' own website
  • The production tours widely across the East of England, including Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds and Southwold Arts Centre, so there are further chances to catch it if Ipswich sells out
