About

Sudbury Common Lands

Spanning 50.3 hectares on the edge of Sudbury, this Local Nature Reserve and County Wildlife Site is one of the largest of its kind in Suffolk. The land has never been ploughed, supporting diverse native grasses, wildflowers, and locally uncommon species such as flowering rush; restored ditches and ponds add further habitat for wildlife. Summer grazing by cattle is central to how the land is managed, and the open meadows have a quiet, unhurried feel along the river valley.
