Housed within a rare 1878 Submarine Mining Establishment at Landguard Point, the museum traces the town's history from its earliest days through to its role as Britain's main container port. Collections cover military operations, social history, natural history, and medical artefacts, with seasonal children's activities on offer throughout the year. The Beehive Café and a gift shop supporting local artists sit alongside the exhibition rooms.
