About this event
A group exhibition at Spirit Studios Suffolk, the John Martin Gallery's large-scale exhibition and studio space set within 20 acres of landscape near Aldeburgh on the Suffolk coast, running from 3 July to 1 August 2026.
*A Day in May* centres on a wonderfully simple idea: every participating artist spends a single day in a landscape they love and creates a new work in response to it. Open to professional and amateur artists alike, the project places participation at its heart, inviting all contributors to work to the same modest scale, a primed board of 24 x 30 cm supplied by project partners Auto Amor. The resulting collection of works becomes a collective meditation on place, attention, and our enduring relationship with the natural world.
The exhibition also marks the 250th anniversary of both Constable and Turner, two painters whose lives were shaped by the landscapes of this very region, lending the show a quietly resonant historical dimension.
